Client: EPC Contractor for Benban Solar Project Cluster (Aswan Region)
Delivery Time: September 2025
Application: Grid connection and distribution for large-scale photovoltaic generation

Project Overview:
QZ Switchgear provided a turnkey MV/LV distribution system for a 100MW solar power plant within the Benban Solar Park, one of the world’s largest PV clusters. The equipment was distributed across multiple inverter stations and step-up substations, ensuring reliable evacuation of renewable power into the 220kV national grid.

Technical Highlights:

Medium Voltage Side

  • 33kV KYN28 panels for incoming, outgoing, and bus-coupler applications

  • Integrated with ABB and Siemens protection relays, IEC61850 protocol-ready

  • ZW32-12 recloser breakers deployed on overhead feeders for remote sectionalizing

Transformer Section

  • Oil-immersed 5000kVA step-up transformers converting 0.6kV inverter output to 33kV

  • ONAN/ONAF cooling design, suitable for desert high-temperature (50°C+)

  • Nitrogen protection system and corrugated tank design to extend service life

Low Voltage Side

  • GCS LV switchgear for inverter output collection and auxiliary loads

  • Compensation cabinets designed with detuned reactors to suppress harmonics

  • Integrated RTU for remote monitoring of power factor and breaker status

SCADA & Control

  • All equipment linked via fiber optic ring to site control center

  • Remote reclosing and fault detection enabled through GSM/GPRS backup channel

  • Data fully compatible with Egyptian Transmission Company’s grid management system

Client Benefits:

  • Single-source supplier reduced EPC coordination effort by 40%

  • Desert-adapted design ensured stable operation under sandstorm and high UV exposure

  • Pre-engineered containerized substations accelerated project delivery by 3 months

  • Full FAT conducted in China with client engineers present, reducing site commissioning risk
